Presenters

Click on any of the presenter portraits to the right (or below) to read a short biography about each presenter broadcasting on Islands FM. Some presenters also have personal emails should you wish to contact them directly.

Bob Bate

Bob Bate

Presenter

Since he was 15 years old, Bob has always loved radio. He started off at Hospital Radio in Exeter, then became a freelance reporter and continuity announcer on the BBC. He’s also a qualified radiographer (but only because his Dad told him to get a ‘proper job’ many years ago!)

bob.bate@islandsfm.org
Abi Wrigley

Abi Wrigley

Presenter

Abi can normally be found running after children or the family dog. Failing that, she'll probably be rowing a Gig boat or doing some sort of exercise that hopefully will make Gig rowing easier.

abi.wrigley@islandsfm.org
Bob Le-Roi

Bob Le-Roi

Presenter

What hasn't Bob done? Well - for one - he hasn't written a succinct biography because he has done SO much! Head on over to his website to discover his amazing background...

Geoff Dorset

Geoff Dorset

Presenter

Geoff started DJing when he was 13 yrs old, and that was a long time ago! He doesn't just play the music - he talks about it and interviews the 'makers and shakers'. His radio shows have won him many awards - tune in to find out why...

Johnny Mack

Johnny Mack

Presenter

Johnny visited Scilly on holiday for the first time back in 2017. He immediately fell in love with the Isles. He has a passion for Scilly and calls it his ‘second home’ supporting the local community and Islands FM throughout the year.  He also has a passion for music and hosts 'Johnny Mack's Jukebox’ and ‘Johnny Mack’s Soul Time'.  Both shows are kindly sponsored by the Seven Stones Inn on St Martins.

johnny.mack@islandsfm.org
Roy Asten

Roy Asten

Presenter

As a youngster Ray played for Blackpool FC in the 60's where he fell in love with Northern Soul music.  After running many discos on Scilly (at a shed in Porth Mellon and the airport!), Ray is back with his music - on air and keen to share!

roy.asten@islandsfm.org
Samaya Reid

Samaya Reid

Presenter

“Living a simple life on St Mary’s. You’ll normally find me walking my four rescue dogs on the beach accompanied by my two young children.”

samaya.reid@islandsfm.org
Steve Sims

Steve Sims

Presenter

Apparently also known as 'The Porpoise'.  Steve drives the Community Bus on St Mary's. His wit shines brightly during his hilarious 'Request Stop' programme on Sunday mornings -the future of broadcast media, or so he claims! Island 'born and bred' and - for good or ill - a local Councillor. He has (in no particular order) four dogs, two cats and a wife.

steve.sims@islandsfm.org
Tim Jones

Tim Jones

Presenter

Tim is based on Scilly, but his love for dance music has seen him DJing to crowds as far away as Malaysia, the US and Australia. He produces a weekly podcast and has even worked alongside Fatboy Slim.  "Party on!"

tim.jones@islandsfm.org
Tony Kaye

Tony Kaye

Presenter

With over 40 years in broadcasting, Tony has been involved with offshore pirate radio (Radio Atlantis in the 60's) and worked alongside some of the big-names in Luxembourg. He's also a radio ham and holds a private pilot's license!

tony.kaye@islandsfm.org
Wyn Grant

Wyn Grant

Presenter

Wyn provides a round up of news on the business side of football every Saturday morning.  He has been involved in broadcast media work since the age of 13.  Other media outlets he has contributed to include the BBC, ITV, AL Jazeera and France24.

wyn.grant@islandsfm.org
Warren Neil

Warren Neill

Presenter

"Freelance Barber at 'HumanistWhiskeyBarber' (google it!) on St Martin's, music promoter and musician. Likes any music that gets you in a headlock"

warren.neill@islandsfm.org
Jane Hurd

Jane Hurd

Weather

Jane has always had an interest in the weather, and having lived on Scilly for over 30 years knows the vagaries of the islands’ microclimate, and also produces a daily IoS forecast for Kernow Weather Team on Facebook. Her other interests include gardening, sewing and cycling. She works part-time as a tutor for Learn Scilly and in the the Isles of Scilly Registration service.

jane.hurd@islandsfm.org
James Watt

James Watt

Presenter

Yorkshireman James is an accomplished broadcaster with decades of BBC local radio experience and has worked as a DJ on cruise ships around the world. In 'Show Talk' he chats to the stars of theatre music and comedy.

Tim Cooper

Tim Cooper

Presenter

Tim is originally from the midlands, but has lived in South Wales for the last 30 years. He's married with one child Rachel, who appears on the show from time to time. Tim has worked for many commercial radio stations in England and Wales.

From Abba to ZZ Top via East 17, 99 Red Balloons and Pop Idol. Can you follow the Red Thread? Tim Cooper will tell you where we're going, can you work out how we're going to get there?

David Wright

David Wright

Presenter

David was born on The Isles of Scilly and has lived here all his life. He started off working on the family farm, and now works for a local shop on St Mary's. David began presenting in 2011 and can be heard on Mondays at 7 pm.

david.wright@islandsfm.org
Nigel Chorley

Nigel Chorley

Presenter

Nigel was born when radio was still in black & white: He knew radio was for him when he heard the pirates in the 60’s and even set up his own radio station at home – a cable service for Mum & Dad with different shows in the kitchen and the lounge! Now he broadcasts throughout Europe and beyond. On Islands FM he presents two different shows - The Soul Show, and Number Ones.

About Us

On 107.9 FM, we are the community local radio station for the Isles of Scilly.  We're proud to be a part of the community we serve and aim to inform and entertain.

The station has gone through a rocky period over the last few years. The current directors joined in 2019 and are working hard to address some of the technical problems that have cropped up in the last couple of years. The station had also begun to sound a bit tired and lacklustre.

It was decided that a re-brand would be a pivotal part of changing the perception of the station, along with several other changes. From the 31st January 2020, as well as a new station name, we have a new website, new jingles and have also welcomed some of the earlier Radio Scilly presenters back to the on-air team, so you'll be re-acquainted with old friends along with some new voices.  We are still broadcasting from the same studio at Porthmellon, and continue to be licenced and regulated by Ofcom, the UK Government's communications regulatory body.

Our presenters are all volunteers, generously giving their time to bring some unique programmes. With their enthusiasm, we hope to discuss stimulating topics, keep you informed on local matters, and provide a platform for the musicians, artists, writers and creatives who share the same love of these beautiful, unique Islands.

Islands FM is a not-for-profit radio station, and is grateful to those business who choose to advertise with us.  Without them, we would be unable to continue to grow and improve.  We hope you will do your best to patronise them and let them know you heard their advert on Islands FM!

If you would be interested in joining us to present programmes from our studio in St Mary's please do get in touch... office@islandsfm.org
